Manic Focus is the beat-bumpin’ project of John “JmaC” McCarten, a Chicago-based electronic music producer hailing from the Twin Cities. A multi-dimensional artist with a rowdy style unbound to any one genre, Manic Focus transcends sound waves by fusing soulful blues with heavy-hitting bass, creating a resonating tone that’s entirely his own.
Over the last 5 years, JmaC has released four full-length albums, each one a new evolution in sound and approach. His most recent album, Cerebral Eclipse, was released on All Good Records, a label quickly making a name for itself as a tastemaker in the modern electronic music scene. He has completed a slew of official remixes for artists such as GRiZ, The Floozies, Lettuce, Minnesota and Pretty Lights, and released several works with Pretty Lights Music veterans Break Science.
On the road, JmaC has been steadily building his live performance to include additional musicians and elements of production. Jacob Barinholtz is now a mainstay on the drums, and other musical co-conspirators join the two on select dates around the country. He’s also been known to incorporate surprise guests such as Big Gigantic’s Dominic Lalli, GRiZ, The Floozies’ Matt Hill, and Russ Liquid, to name a few. Occasionally, fans are treated to the rare live fusion of Break Science and Manic Focus, taking the stage as Manic Science.
In the studio, JmaC continues to push himself to new musical limits by incorporating original, sample-free recordings of many up-and-coming musical allies. This is especially apparent in the material from his forthcoming album, Minds Rising, to be released Fall of 2016.
Whether it’s at a small-town venue or a world-renowned music festival on his nationwide headlining tour, you won’t want to miss a Manic Focus throw-down.
Resonant Frequency is a band of Electro-Soul and Future-Funk Producers Diamond Cuts, Lando, And Local Color. After meeting at a show where each artist performed, their solo projects merged to form the band in November 2013. Since their short formation, they have opened for artists such as Goldfish, Exmag, RJD2, Marvel Years and The Funk Hunters ft. Chali 2na. The group consists of Vince Seidl (Diamond Cuts) on Guitar/Keys/Sequences/Production, Landon Reichle (Lando) on Bass/Synth/Push/Production, and Ben Slade (Local Color) on Drums/Production. With a focus on hard hitting funk beats and basslines, Resonant Frequency throws down genre-defying live set that makes crowds get down. After releasing an EP and four singles in their first year together, Resonant Frequency has a lot of Music ready to release in 2015.
For the Polish Ambassador project, born on the richly-colored streets of Chicago and San Francisco, infectious melody is paramount. However, this never overshadows the depth and harmonic complexity that have made the Ambassador a favorite amongst festival curators and beat aficionados worldwide. Over the course of 6 years, his sound has dipped and swirled through a staggering range of styles, with each album exploring uncharted sonic territory. Warm, analogue dreamwave; mind-altering glitch; world-infused groove; bass-fueled breaks; sexified down-tempo; electric lullabies; and psy-fi funk are just a few of the genres that have poured from the Ambassador’s soul into earbuds and ghetto-blasters across the galaxy.
Despite the political connotations of his name, the Ambassador is not a political partisan. Rather, he is a diplomat for a new paradigm rooted in creative joy, radical self-expression, and ecological principles. As part of this mission, the Ambassador has committed to carbon-neutral touring, instigating exploratory dance, and igniting fan participation.
Flanked on the Ambassador’s left is visual artist Liminus, a master of translating dynamic, sonic landscapes into breathtaking video projection. Liminus’s improvisational abilities are a perfect complement to the Ambassador’s custom-tailored audio transmission, and his presence on stage allows for an audio/visual synergy rarely witnessed in electronic music performance. Together, the duo will take you on a voyage that leaves you drenched in sweat, with a smile slapped on your face, and a heart busted wide open.
Bass Physics is a Denver-based duo consisting of A.P. Adair and Luke Sims that came together with one objective in mind: to spread positive vibes through the power of music. Their genre-bending sound is made up of soulful electronic beats fused with live guitar and keys. While some songs weave beautifully expressive sonic landscapes, others explode with power and energy.
Their debut album Lose Your Mind was released in early 2013, containing an eleven-track combination of dream-like glitch-hop intertwined with electronic soul-step. Since then, they have continued to build momentum with a series of follow-up singles and an EP, ‘Where Do We Turn,’ garnering significant attention and establishing themselves as a must see act.
Bass Physics added to their extensive list of festival plays in 2014-2015, making their second consecutive appearance at Global Dance Festival and Decadence NYE, playing Austin’s Euphoria Music Festival, and making their debut appearance on the main stage of Colorado’s legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater, opening for Savoy and Michal Menert. They seek to always keep the party live by bringing energy and emotion to the dance floor.
Blunt Force is the musical vision of Austin, Texas locals Brian Gustafson & Deniz Baykal. Mixing elements of funk, hip-hop, and livetronica, Blunt Force has quickly gained notoriety throughout the scene with their unique blend of styles.
Heavily influenced by the rise of sample-driven electronic music, Gustafson sought to add his own touch to this newly emerging genre. After moving to Austin, Texas in 2011 to attend St. Edward’s University, Gustafson began producing music out of his freshman dorm room. Not wanting to be just another DJ, Gustafson strived to create a unique style of his own by blending sample-based productions with rhythmic guitar riffs.
Blunt Force began performing live in the fall of 2012. With the addition of live guitar in his sets, he began to stir up quite the buzz around the Austin scene. After playing extensively in Austin, Gustafson slowed down in 2013 to focus more on his productions. This resulted in the release of his first EP, “A Brighter Tomorrow”, in February of 2014. After the release of “A Brighter Tomorrow”, Gustafson paired up with drummer, Deniz Baykal, who he had met while attending St. Edward’s University. The two debuted the new live show at Euphoria Music Festival in April of 2014. The match was a perfect fit, bringing even more of a live dynamic to the already high energy Blunt Force live set.
